How To Have An Attitude Of Gratitude While Searching For A Job

Searching for and getting a new job is quite a transformation. When we go through any type of change, it can sometimes feel challenging.

Our intentions and goals are tested and we are often faced with some larger decisions. Depending on how your job searching process has been going, it may have affected your attitude. As a Career Coach, I see people get jaded, discouraged, and even angry during this process. It is critical to keep a positive attitude during your job search. Gratitude is the fastest way to get there.

So what exactly is gratitude? Merriam Webster defines gratitude as, “a feeling of appreciation or thanks,” or, “the state of being grateful: THANKFULNESS.” Gratitude is one of those positive emotions that can help us to live intentionally from a place of mindfulness. Gratitude brings us back down to Earth when we’ve been letting emotions like fear and frustration get the best of us. It also helps us to see the bigger picture of all we have to be thankful for, despite what we may feel is lacking.

Acknowledging those feelings of appreciation will help us to shift our energy and mood when we’ve gotten fed up with the process.
Gratitude can make all the difference in the eleventh hour when we’re thinking about throwing in the towel. So how can you incorporate gratitude into your daily practice?

Gratitude can be practiced in a number of ways. Starting off your day with things like morning affirmations can allow you to really start off on the right foot. This could also be something that you instead choose to end your day with as a means of self-reflection. Journaling can also be a great outlet for cultivating feelings of gratitude. Keeping a gratitude journal is a great practice to be in to help you to keep perspective. It’s nice to go back and re-read in those moments where you’re struggling to find things to be grateful for while provisioning a tool to help hold yourself accountable. When we regularly reflect on all that we have to be grateful for, we naturally find ourselves feeling more thankful every day.

I’d love to hear in the comments below what you’re all grateful for! Remember, your words may inspire someone else who’s struggling to maintain feelings of gratitude right now.
